Peregrine Falcon, Lesser Redpoll plus others along disused railway line.


On a mostly sunny, blustery walk  along the disused railway this morning I watched a Peregrine Falcon eat its breakfast whilst sitting on an electricity pylon (photo below). Other raptors seen were female Sparrowhawk and possible Merlin. Full list of birds seen below.


Blackbird mostly males around at present, c10 birds
Black-headed Gull 10s flying over and 10s feeding in fields
Bullfinch c4
Canada Geese c220
Carrion crow c10
Chaffinch 1 female
Collared Dove one bird by houses
Fieldfare 1 poss being alarmed by female sparrowhawk
Goldfinch 2 small flocks
Great Tit numerous, very vocal
Jay 1
House Sparrow flocks around houses
Jackdaw 10s flying over and 10s feeding in fields
Lesser Redpoll 3 feeding in Alder trees
Long- tailed Tit small flock
Magpie 3 feeding in Alder trees
Mallard c8 under trees in copse by canal, two males fighting
Merlin possible
Moorhen c5 on canal

Raven 2 pairs flying over

Starling no flocks today, just single birds
Tree Creeper 1 feeding on birch tree
Wigeon c8 pairs in seasonal pool near Endon Brook, near pylons

 An adult Peregrine Falcon clutching a small bird in its talons. It stopped eating as I watched it, obviously wary of me, then as I walked away it continued to eat its catch.
 
 
About 100 of the Canada Geese that have taken up winter residence in Endon over the past few years.
